New RSPCA, Sheffield
In 2003 the Sheffield branch of the RSPCA faced the compulsory purchase of their Spring street animal shelter due to the expansion of the cities inner ring road. A new home was found on derelict land at the heart of the west end. Their new facility boasts some of the most up to date kennel and cattery facilities in the country.
The project was a great challenge for us, working closely with the main contractors, Clegg special projects and our suppliers, we were able to help specify and install the cement fibre slate to this unique curved structure. Each slate along the curved sections was meticulously cut in order to maintain straight even lines up the roof slope whilst still working in with the straight slated sections which adjoin them.
The staff are at the centre are there to care for the animals, so the last thing they needed was to have to carry out regular maintenance on the building itself. With our help Cleggs were able to specify clean looking upvc fascia boards and high gloss PVC gutters and downpipes along with a dry ridge system to help keep this maintenance to a minimum.
