Sheffield-based roofing specialist, Martin-Brooks, is strengthening its commitment to improving safety standards by investing in the supervisory skills of key members of its team.
Six site foremen from the leading roofing experts have been awarded the Site Supervisor Safety Training Certificate to recognise their proactive approach to upholding site safety.
To achieve the accreditation, Martin-Brooks’ foremen were required to attend a two-day course run by the Construction Industry Training Board. They had to demonstrate their understanding of the need for risk assessment, implementation of necessary control measures and adequate communication and monitoring. Certificates were then awarded to the candidates who successfully passed a final exam.
Martin-Brooks now has qualified supervisors for both flat and pitched roof sites, enabling the firm to work on a wider range of contracts and maintain higher standards of safety. The firm’s qualified foremen include Darren Green, George Marshall, Richard Hague, Paul Wassell, Paul Stephenson and John Wood.
Nicola Jackson, Martin-Brooks’ group health and safety co-ordinator, said: “Working safely at height is a key concern not just for roofing contractors, but the construction industry as a whole. Having site supervisors with an in-depth understanding of the relevant regulations and issues shows we are taking proactive steps to exceeding our legal obligations and maintaining the very best levels of staff training. Achieving this recognised standard will ensure our foremen keep their teams safe and continue to be excellent ambassadors for the firm.”
