A director at Sheffield-based, Martin-Brooks, is joining the roofing industry’s elite after completing one of the most highly regarded training courses in the construction sector.
Contracts director, Dale Wright, has become the first member of the roofing specialists’ team to pass the Construction Industry Training Board’s Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).
To achieve the qualification, which is a demonstration of competency in site safety, Dale had to attend a five-day training course that required candidates to pass a series of core exercises and a final examination in areas such as risk assessment, site set up and confined spaces.
The SMSTS accreditation gives site managers and supervisors a greater understanding of the legal, moral and social responsibilities of their role and qualifies them to manage health and safety on sites in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and regulations relevant to the construction industry.
Nicola Jackson, Martin-Brooks’ health and safety officer, said: “Dale is an extremely experienced roofer with a great technical knowledge of the industry and we would like to congratulate him on his achievement. Having a member of the senior management team with the SMSTS qualification is hugely important to the firm. It is widely regarded as a quality standard by the construction industry and will, therefore, enable us to tender for more high value contract work.”
