Council tenants in north Derbyshire are enjoying warmer, more energy efficient homes thanks to local roofing specialists, Martin-Brooks.
The Sheffield firm was hired by Chesterfield Borough Council to reroof 19 properties in Barrow Hill, near Staveley, bringing them up to modern standards.
Martin-Brooks’ expert roofers were on site for seven weeks, working on at least three properties at a time. The project involved stripping old tiles from the 60-year old semi-detached homes and increasing the loft insulation to the recommended thickness. New roof coverings, soffits, fascia, guttering and fall pipes were also added and the chimneys were re-pointed.
The residents remained in their homes while the work was carried out. During this time, Martin-Brooks collaborated with the council and the community to minimise disruption, resolve any issues on site and ensure snagging work was undertaken quickly.
Alex Elmore, Martin-Brooks’ project manager, said: “Upgrading the loft insulation has made a big difference to the thermal efficiency of these properties. The occupants welcomed the programme of improvements and by providing regular updates on progress we maintained excellent relationships with those affected. The houses not only look smarter but are also performing better and our client is extremely happy with the results.”
Martin-Brooks works closely with Chesterfield Borough Council, having carried out a number of flat and pitched re-roofing projects and repair work on commercial and domestic premises during the last two years.
